2009 California Flip Flop Wine- Great Holiday Gift!

2009 California
As they say, it’s the happiest time of the year.  All the running around, in and out of stores, trying to find that perfect someone the perfect gift.  Not to mention trying to keep everything hidden, getting the house and tree decorated, writing out Christmas cards and don’t forget the wrapping and shipping!

So what else could be better than to have a chance to relax and review some wines.

I was fortunate enough to review three different wines from Flipflop, but even before tasting any of them, I need to comment on the labels.  They are fun, colorful and very catchy to the eye.  Each label is full of information.

Cabernet Sauvignon – Full-bodied, Cabernet Sauvignon with blackberry fruit, dark cherries and a long, lingering finish. This was my husband’s favorite, served with great steaks.  It was a dry red wine which complimented our dinner very well.

Chardonnay – Medium-bodied, Chardonnay with pineapple, soft vanilla and a long lingering finish.  This was my favorite, a medium dry white wine which I recommend serving it chilled.

Merlot – Medium-bodied, silky Merlot with plum and mocha notes, soft tannins and a balanced, luscious finish.  Also another favorite of mine, a red merlot goes well with any hearty meal like chili.
What makes buying Flipflop Wines even better, is knowing that with each wine bottle purchased someone in need is
receiving a pair of flip flops through the Soles4Souls international shoe charity. Through the partnership between Soles4Souls and Flip Flop Wines over $100,000 from Flip Flop Wines proceeds has helped to distribute shoes to millions of people in need.

He then went off to college to study viticulture and wine-making to create a  “well-balanced wine that everyone can afford”. Mr. George has become not only a great wine maker but also loves to give back. That is why he has teamed up with Soles4Souls and donates shoes to those in need! FlipFlop Wine Review- Yummy Wine at a Great Price!

David Georges, creator of Flip Flop Wines,  became fascinated with wine after planting a small vineyard of his own. I am no wine connoisseur, but I’ve had enough wine to know what I like and what I don’t!  I frequent wine festivals and I am known to comment on the “wine legs”, although truth be told, they have nothing to do with the wine quality.  They’re nice to look at and it’s a good conversation starter.  So, when the opportunity to taste and review various bottles of wine came my way, I jumped!  I was excited to receive three bottles of Flip Flop Wines for review. A 2010 California Pinot Grigio, a 2010 California Pinot Noir, and a 2010 Washington Riesling.

I had noticed the cute packaging on these bottles on a recent trip to Jungle Jim’s and I also knew that for every bottle of Flip Flop Wines purchased, Soles4Souls will distribute a pair of shoes to someone in need, and at $7 a bottle ($5.99 on sale at Kroger), anyone can afford a bottle and still give back!

My husband lit a fire in the backyard that night, and we decided to try the Riesling first.  It was easily the sweetest of the wines I received.  It was light and fruity and tasted like peach and watermelons.  If you like really sweet wine, this one is for you!   We took the bottle of Pinot Noir with us on a camping trip, and after the kids were tucked in bed in our camper, we opened the bottle.  Red wine has always been my favorite, so I was eager to try it.  It did not disappoint!  It was semi-dry and had hints of cherry and vanilla.  I loved that it wasn’t overly sweet and it had a smooth finish.  It was definitely my favorite!  The last bottle we tried was the Pinot Grigio.  This was a close second.  It smelled and tasted zesty.  It was well balanced and not too sweet so it was refreshing and perfect for a warm summer night!  We drank it over a feast of Chicken Parmesean and it was perfect. All in all, I really enjoyed all 3 Flip Flop Wines. They may not be the best wines I’ve ever tried, but they just might be the best $7 wine on the market!
