5 Tips to Stop Eating Out – But Mom I Don’t Want To!

burger and friesWith New Year’s Resolutions popping up every where, I wanted to make a few that were more reasonable than ones I have set in the past! With several kiddos in sports, after school activities and doctor appointments galore, we are always on the run! So sometimes fitting in dinner is a quick run through our local drive through restaurant, eat in the van and then drive to our next activity. With this comes a lot of issues, cost, nutrition, health and “But mom I don’t want to eat at home!”. After a visit to the doctor yesterday for my youngest daughter, I was advised that her eating habits were not exactly what they should be. She is a very picky eater and basically of the 4 things that she eats, all 4 are on her no eat diet. And all 4 are items we pick up at our local drive through restaurant on a regular basis! Not to mention the cost of eating out, seems to increase every time we go! With 6 of us at a burger place we can spend $50 easily. Multiply that by 4 times a week and that is more than my weekly grocery shopping budget! So I made a plan and here are some tips to help you and your family hit the drive through less!

My plan is simple, 5 little things I am going to do to each week to lessen our visits to the drive through!

Make a Meal Plan: Each week I use to make a menu of what I was going to cook and then cooked it. We ate out less and had healthier meal options! But each day seems to get busier and busier, putting it on the back burner. The health of my family is my priority and I need to make sure I do everything I can to keep them at their best! Having a plan will help with the I don’t know nights of what to cook, meaning we eat out! So be on the look out for my weekly meal plans and be sure to share yours with me as well!menu plan monday orgjunkie

Plan a Bulk Freezer Meal Cook Day: Again I use to do this all the time and it was great to be able to grab a bag, leave it on the counter to thaw during the day while I was at work, running errands, toting the kiddos to all the appointments and activities and then come home and throw it in a pan, cook for 30 minutes or so and have dinner! This is great if you have older kiddos that beat you home from work! They can simply throw the meal in a crockpot and turn it on for you, dinner will ready by time you get home. This is also a great way to spend a half of a day cooking with your kiddos and getting them involved in making healthier meal options! What are your Bulk Cooking Plans?

Stockpile at the Grocery: Now I know if you are around here at all you have to see all the posts I share about grocery store sales and great deals each week! When you see these items, these are the times to stockpile as much of them as you can at the lowest price to help keep your food budget down, but to also allow you to have food readily available! How many times have you simply ate out just because you didn’t have all the items you needed to cook dinner. And instead of piling in the car, running to the grocery and getting what you need, you simply just called pizza for delivery! If you have food in your pantry, you will be less likely to call for take out!

Simplify Your Meal Plan: Yes if you want to impress the neighbors with a 6 course meal with all the fixins on your night to host book club, then go right ahead! But on a normal basis, your family will love your meal just the same if it is simple, quick and allows you more time with them instead of slaving over the stove! When planning out your menu for the week or your Bulk Freezer Cooking Day, make items are that staples that everyone in your house loves but can go with anything! I will cook several pounds of chicken on Sunday and use it for 3-4 nights during the week for meals like Tacos, Chicken Noodle Soup, Chickens N Dumplins, or Salads!

Don’t Give In & Make an Incentive: One of my biggest problem for eating out, is not being able to say no! There are many times that we simply ate out because I just couldn’t say no! There are times when we will be heading home and we all exhausted but it is still 6pm, plenty of time to head home, make a quick meal and then start bed time routines! But one of the kiddos will ask for that yummy burger we had last week from the burger joint we will be passing in 3 minutes and it will just be so much simpler to stop, eat their yummy food, not have to cook, not have to clean up and just go home and lay on the couch, veg out to the latest American Idol episode until they need baths! I know, sounds amazing right?!?!? But even though all of that sounds great, I should just tell them no, we will be home shortly and I will make a even better meal at home! You can also throw in a little incentive! That if we don’t eat out this week, we can go to a nice dinner and movie later in the week in exchange for the everyday stops! 4 times a week at $50 is $200, where a nice dinner ($75) + movie tickets ($40-$50) is $110-$120, it is a bit of a savings but extra time doing something with my kiddos is the ultimate payoff!

Celebrate National Martini Day at #‎MyRustyBucket‬ Every Friday!

rusty bucket martini night

Today is National Martini Day- YAY!! So head out and celebrate with friends and family with a good old fashion martini! And while your out, stop by Rusty Bucket for their Friday Night Martini Specials! rusty bucket martiniThis way you can celebrate National Martini Day every week!

While martini’s are great, I love good food, but I really love great food! Rusty Bucket is definitely one of my favorite places to eat, because they have great food! If you are looking for a place with some great food, a kid friendly menu, yummy drinks and a great time with friends and family, this is the best!

The atmosphere here is amazing, staff is always friendly and if you don’t quite know what you are hungry for, just ask, they have the best suggestions!

Friday’s are Martini Night at Rusty Bucket and never having a martini, our server suggested the Pineapple Finlandia Cosmo- this is not your everyday martini! These pineapples soak for 3 weeks before they are added to your drink! Let’s just say they are very yummy! So for a light weight like me, be sure to have a designated driver. This is a sweet, smooth and a very delicious drink. This would be my recommendation if you are looking for a new drink!

rusty bucket bucket punch

If you are a Rusty Bucket regular then you will know all about the Bucket Punch – Their signature PineFin, Mount Gay silver rum, Cointreau, POM juice, orgeat syrup, blood orange bitters and fresh squeezed orange and lime juices. This will get your body a moving! Not too sweet but hits just the right spot!

After drinks we tried the Spinach Con Queso- a blend of spinach, white wine and cheeses, served with piping hot tortilla chips. Usually I am not a huge Spinach Dip fan, but this is a little different than any other spinach dip I have had. This dip is smooth and creamy and alot of cheese flavor not over taken by the spinach. Also served with diced tomatoes, mixed in with the cheesy goodness, they melt right in your mouth!

I ordered the Chicken Parmesan – seasoned panko crusted chicken breast topped with marinara sauce, provolone cheese and rusty bucket chicken parmesanserved with pasta alfredo and garlic cheese bread. When you order this, be sure to bring a big appetite! This meal is large enough for 2 or someone very hungry! The moist seasoned panko crusted chicken breast was smothered in this rich italian flavored marinara sauce then covered with cheese and creamy Alfredo sauce that was just amazing! Each bite of chicken just melts in your mouth and keeps you wanting more! I was able to enjoy about half of my plate before I was completely stuffed! But nothing says tomorrows lunch like today’s dinner leftovers! It was just as good the next day!

We also ordered the Mac & Cheese – Swiss and American cheeses with elbow macaroni; topped with cheddar panko bread crumbs and oven-baked until golden brown; served with garlic cheese bread. I have to admit, I am very picky with my Mac &  Cheese, alot of places try to fancy it all up by adding additional toppings and most places fail miserably. But I have to say, this was one of the most flavorful bowls of Mac & Cheese I have ever had. rusty bucket mac and cheese

I love finding local places that not only I can go out with my family and enjoy but still have a night out with my girls all at the same place! Cincinnati: Bravo Grand Opening in Rookwood

bravo pic

Italian food is my absolute favorite food – so getting the opportunity to try out the new location of Bravo! Cucina Italiana in Rookwood (Cincinnati) was like, duh! Bravo! is know for their higher end Italian cuisine at affordable prices but I have to say the experience was my favorite! Walking into the restaurant, smells of your favorite Italian spices and flavors hit you, instantly making your mouth water. Walking to our table getting a preview of all the amazing food, seemed almost like a tease!

bread and salad bravo

As soon as we arrived to our table our waiter greeted us and asked if we had ever visited a Bravo! and in detail explained what specials they had. Gave us plenty of options and answered all our questions about the food and what each item contained. The detail to customer service and making our visit the best it could be, was a amazing! We got to start off our meal with a Caesar salad and bread. Then we got our yummy appetizers!

bravo appetizers

I normally am not a huge fan of flatbread, but the Chicken, Spinach & Bacon Flatbread with Grilled chicken, spinach, Applewood bacon, green onions, Mozzarella, and Provolone was absolutely delicious! The flavors blended so well together and are a great way to get started!

I was a little afraid of trying the Italian Wedding Soup. Meatballs, spinach, pasta and cheese just did not seem like something that would go together. So I was a little on the fence. But I have to say, this was the most delicious bowl of soup I have ever had! Extremely creamy and the meatballs, oh meatballs! These meatballs were moist and flavorful in each and every bit! This is a meal all in it’s own!

After this, there was not much more room for anything else, but I knew we had some more great food coming and a dessert!

I ordered the Sausage Tortelloni which is a Cheese-filled tortelloni, sweet Italian sausage, pancetta, tomato sauce, crushed red pepper, Mozzarella, and fresh basil. And my partner ordered the Mama’s Lasagna Bolognese a Creamy Alfredo and BRAVO!’s signature meat sauce. With out a doubt these two meals were absolutely to die for! The moist, sweet flavor of the Italian sausage and the creamy cheese and kicking peppers were blended so well and just melted in your mouth! But the lasagna, it was my favorite! The flavors of this lasagna were just amazing! It was not your regular lasagna, this was creamy and flavors just burst in your mouth! The way they blend the Alfredo sauce and cheeses are such a great combination, it made the meal fantastic!

bravo dinner

Finally when I just felt like I couldn’t eat another bite, they delivered the dessert! And just not any dessert, Bravo! Cheesecake- Luscious New York style cheesecake with a shortbread cookie crust, dusted with sugar and caramelized to order. Served with vanilla bean anglaise.

Like who comes up with this stuff! I love cheesecake, but this was like over the top, the best cheesecake I have ever had! As you can see in the picture we finished the entire thing! I know what your thinking, how in the world did you eat all that food, well when it’s that good you just can’t not eat it!!

Bravo cheesecake

So next time you have a hunger for Italian food, the only place to go is Bravo!. Check them out here on their website to make reservations or you are able to walk in, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest or Instagram!
