Our Attempt at the #4 M&M’s Cake!

image

Our baby girl is now 4 years old and she said all she wanted was a M&M cake for her birthday dinner! After seeing a #3 on Pinterest covered with M&M’s I knew I had to try it!

So we whipped up a #4 covered in M&M’s with the kiddos help! We ran out of certain colors of M&M’s, so we only did the top of the cake, next time we know to buy 2 bags of M&M’s!

Although it is not as cool as the one I saw on Pinterest, everyone loved! Our youngest loved it too and said she knew she was getting a M&M’s cake! Who knew!!

@Pinterest Round-up 2/12

This weekly Pinterest Roundup is from our friends over at cincysavers.com, to help you find great frugal solutions for your daily life.

Have you discovered Pinterest yet? I have, and I have fallen in love! Pinterest is full of great fashion tips, decor ideas, craft and DIY projects and so much more. But what you may not realize is that Pinterest is also full of great ideas for the frugalista too. From DIY to recipes to natural solutions, there are dozens of great ideas posted every day. This is my weekly Pinterest roundup of my favorite frugal ideas from the past week.

Homemade sidewalk paint–Holy cow, this stuff is expensive at the store, but oh-so-popular with the kiddos! Well, here’s an inexpensive homemade version found over at the blog Domestic Charm. Even better? There’s only three ingredients–Water, Corn Starch and Food Coloring–all of which you probably have in your pantry right now.

Homemade Swiffer Duster Refill–Swiffer dusters work wonderfully, but can be really expensive. This tutorial from Seams Happy walks you through a simple sewing pattern to make your own reusable Swiffer duster refills. The fleece ones hold dust really well, which is great for anyone with a dust allergy. Simply throw the duster into the wash and it is ready to use again!

Homemade shoe shine: Don’t buy polish any more! According to Real Simple magazine, all you need is a dab of vegetable oil on a soft cloth to have shiny, well-buffed shoes.

Reuse Creamer Bottles for Storage: Got a great deal on Coffee Mate? Don’t throw away that bottle when it is done! Wash it out and dry it, remove the label and use it for good dry storage. Great for raisins, snack mixes, sugar and more. It has a good seal and can be used for so many things

You can also follow cincysavers over on Pinterest  or Just Trying To Save Money on Pinterest for lots more great Pinterest finds. Follow us and we’ll follow you back!

@Pinterest Round-up 2/5

So I thought I’d start a weekly Pinterest roundup of my favorite frugal ideas from the past week.

Glow sticks inside balloons make for a great festive decoration that is well beyond the norm! From kids’ parties to adult ones, this one is sure to make everyone who passes by smile! Slip the glow bracelets and necklaces from the dollar store inside a balloon, then inflate as usual. So simple, so cute! Between glow sticks and balloons, this decoration should be under $5, max!

Use a kids’ rubber mat in a new way for comfort and style. Remember those brightly colored kids’ play mats that fit together like a jigsaw puzzle for the playroom? The creative minds over at ShannonBerry.com have totally re-purposed the inexpensive play-mat into a creative solution that almost anyone can use. A little paint and creativity and you’ve got a great all-purpose mat for the kitchen and beyond. I think this would be great for those with bad backs who have to stand a lot too.

Use a hanging file holder in the car for kids toys and things. If your car is anything like mine, then there are a million and one kids’ toys floating around the back seat. This idea helps you keep them all neat and somewhat organized. Books, Happy Meal toys, crayons, they all find a home when you use a hanging file holder in the middle of the back seat. Even better, assign one pocket to each child, so that there’s no arguments over who is touching who’s stuff.

Add shelves and trim for a frugal facelift to your bathroom. Do you have one of those outdated large mirrors in your bathroom? This brilliant idea is a great way to give your bathroom an update for less than $100. Using a small bookshelf and some standard trim, they transformed their bathroom without having to remove or replace the mirror. I’ve actually pinned this myself to show to my husband for our own bathroom.

Use a paper towel holder to organize your bracelets. This brilliant idea from the blog The Adventures of VAMH not only organizes your bracelets and accessories, but it is somewhat decorative as well! This brilliant re-purposing of household items uses a $3.99 paper towel holder from Target. Frugal, fun and fabulous!

Are You Addicted to Pinterest?

Are you addicted to Pinterest? Well I am and I know most of my friends are!! You can follow me here, if you are already on Pinterest! If you are not familiar with Pinterest, here is the run down!

  • What is Pinterest? – Pinterest is a virtual pinboard. The way I have explained it to my friends and family is this- if you are like me, when you are reading a magazine and you see something you love, want to try or want to buy, you tear it out and put it on the refrigerator or in a box. Pinterest is the same idea, only now you are tearing out pages from the internet and pinning them to your online boards. You can create boards for anything- planning a wedding, planning a birthday party, home decorating ideas, craft ideas, the ideas are endless!!
  • What is a Pin? – A pin is an image added to your Pinterest boards. A pin can be added from a website using the Pin It button, or you can upload images from your computer or smart phone. Each pin added using the Pin It button links back to the site it came from. You can also re-pin others pins to your boards as well!
  • How do I pin something? – Install the “Pin It” button to your toolbar on your computer, making pinning things you love easy and quick!
  • Follow others Boards- You can follow others pins to see what great things they find!
  • How To Become a Pinner? – Pinterest is currently invite only, so ask a friend to send you an invite so you can start finding great projects, recipes, products and much more!

”"

There are a few rules that you will want to follow while on Pinterest according to Pinterest:

  • Be Nice- no rude behavior, mean comments or distasteful conversations!
  • Credit The Sources- give credit where it’s due. Try and add information about where you are pinning a particular image from and a link back.
  • Avoid Self Promotion- Although you are allowed to pin images or projects that you have completed yourself, Pinterest is not the place to only pin yours and yours only! Share the love and pin others as well!
  • Report Inappropriate Content- Nudity or Hateful Content is not acceptable and should be reported as soon as possible!

If you are not already on Pinterest, you can send me an email and I can send you an invite! justtryingtosavemoney at yahoo.com
