Ideas for Easter Baskets Items

With Easter right around the corner, I have been stocking up on items to add to our girls Easter Baskets! If you are like me, buying pre-made baskets seem like a waste of money for 2 reasons! It is usually cheap junk, that lasts a whole week and they are usually pretty pricey for the small amount of items you get.

Although the picture above is a super cute basket, $38 is a little too much to spend on 1 basket, multiply this by 3 (we have 3 girls) and we have spent way too much!! Plus now we have added 2 puppy babies to our house and our girls are asking if the Easter Bunny will be bringing the puppies anything! Yikes, I need a part time job just to be able to afford Easter gifts!! Although they still know the true meaning of Easter it’s just like Christmas, they want fun stuff to play with!

I like to find things that I know my girls will enjoy and use for a while and are within our budget! Here is a list of items that we have put in our kiddos Easter Baskets over the years!

Items from your stockpile:

  • Crayons- we have some left over from the back to school deals
  • Gum- older kiddos would love this!
  • FREE Candy- CVS is always running sales on candy, so we have  a whole drawer of items we can add to our girls baskets
  • Clothes- I have a tote full of clothes that I have found on clearance at Target, Old Navy or Justice that I have held onto for either Birthday’s, Easter or Valentine’s Day.
  • Markers
  • Glue Sticks
  • Rulers

Dollar Store Ideas:

  • Bubbles
  • Puzzles
  • Jump Ropes
  • Tattoos
  • Colored Pencils
  • Coloring Books
  • Play-doh
  • Stickers
  • Bubble Bath
  • Head Bands or Hair Accessories
  • Sidewalk Chalk
  • Scrapbook Supplies- stamps, scissors, stencils, etc
  • Dress up accessories- necklaces, shoes, etc
  • Sunglasses
  • Hot Wheels Cars
  • Kite
  • Barbies
  • Action Figurines or Army Men
  • Diary

Amazon Ideas:

Book Ideas:

Homemade Ideas:

  • Make up some Bath Paint with Shaving Cream
  • Grab some super cheap Flip Flops from a local craft store or dollar store and decorate them. Add glitter, gems, bows, whatever you think your little one would like.
  • Make a batch of Edible Play-doh and put them in cute jars. Tie a few cookie cutters to the jars and a mini rolling pin for the dollar store!

Other Ideas:

  • Personalize a T-shirt- there are many places you can create a one of a kind t-shirt just for your kiddos! Vistaprint has one for just $2!
  • Sand Box Toys & Accessories
  • Hula Hoops
  • Nail Polish or Girl Accessories (lip gloss, chapstick, etc)
  • Flip Flops or Sandals
  • Movie Passes
  • Coupons for Days out with Mom or Dad or skip a chore pass, be creative!

What items do you add to your kiddos Easter Baskets?

Frugal Goodie Bag Idea- Decorate Your Own Bookmark

Finding inexpensive goodie bag items for your kiddos class can sometimes be very challenging at times.  It seems with 3 kiddos in school and several class parties, we are always buying items for the girls classes! So after searching the dollar store this weekend, I was able to find these cute decorate your own bookmarks, 36ct for just a $1 and a box of 24ct crayons at Walmart for .47. I now had a great item to add to their class goodie bags, on the cheap!!

With just a $1.47 invested I was able to make 24 of these super cute decorate your own bookmarks! Add a crayon or 2 to the back of the bookmark with a rolled up piece of tape! I only did 1 crayon, you could add another crayon so that they could have 2, but I figured what pre-schooler didn’t have more crayons at home!

Frugal Goodie Bag Idea- Valentine’s Day Smore’s Kit

If you are looking for a quick and inexpensive Valentine’s Day idea for your kiddos class, then you are in luck? We made these over the weekend with items that we had already in the pantry so it was very inexpensive for us, but even if you need to purchase them, this should cost no more than $5 to make about 20 or so.

We used:

  • a Box of Graham Crackers
  • 2 Hershey Bars
  • 1 Bag of Heart Shaped Marshmallows
  • Zip Lock Baggies
  • a Couple sheets of Pink Scrapbook Paper
  • Stapler
  • Computer or a marker to hand write the Valentine’s Note

Very simple, just add 2 pieces of graham cracker, 1 piece of chocolate and 1 marshmallow to each bag. We then printed out a little message along the top of some scrapbook paper and cut to size. We also added instructions on the back, just in case! Stapled the note to the top and that’s it. Took us about 30 minutes to make 20!

Instructions for the back were pretty simple:

Add 1 piece of chocolate and the marshmallow to the top of one piece of graham cracker. Pop in microwave on a plate for just a few seconds. Add other piece of graham cracker and squish together! YUMMY! Happy Valentine’s Day!
