CAMP WASHINGTON CHILI CONEY EATING CONTEST A BIG SUMMER HIT

CINCINNATI (June 10, 2013) – The Freaky Friday events on Fountain Square continue this week with the Camp Washington Chili Coney Eating Contest on Friday, June 14. Come down to the square from Noon to 1:00 p.m. for some good old-fashioned fun.

In the contest, twelve people complete against each other in a timed event. The object is to eat as many cheese coneys as possible in three minutes. The record is thirteen.

One of the original chili parlors in the city, Camp Washington Chili has been in business on the same Colerain Avenue corner since 1940, five minutes from downtown off the Hopple Street exit. They have been recognized nationally in Bon Appetit Magazine as one of the top 10 chili parlors in the United States. Three different shows on the Travel Channel featured Camp Washington Chili: Man v. Food, Chili Paradise, and 101 Places to Chow Down in America. The Food Network’s “Al Roker on the Road” has featured Camp Washington Chili, and the restaurant has won a James Beard Award.

Outside of Texas, Cincinnati is the most chili-crazed city in the United States, with more chili parlors per capita and per square mile than any other city in the country. According to the Cincinnati USA Convention and Visitors Bureau, Cincinnatians consume more than 2 million pounds of chili each year, topped with 850,000 pounds of shredded cheese. And, if you haven’t tried Camp Washington Chili yet, you’re missing the best chili in Cincinnati.

Yesterday, a team of 16 spent most of the day installing the beautiful Scotts Spring Carpet in the middle of Fountain Square, including:

Disney Radio Visits Newport Aquarium February 23

Newport, KY – The Radio Disney Road Crew is turning the newly renovated theater into party central with music, dancing, games and giveaways Sat., Feb. 23 from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Newport Aquarium. The fun is all free with paid admission to Newport Aquarium and this is the last weekend for Winter Family Days, two kids get in free with each full-price adult ticket.

Radio Disney’s “Move It” themed event challenges kids to get moving and stay fit. Dance-off competitions, jump-rope challenges and obstacle courses are just a few of the activities planned.

Radio Disney sling backpacks with water bottles and jump ropes will be given to 10 lucky kids. The grand prize winner receives a “Shake It Up Live2Dance” CD, a sling backpack, a Franklin badminton and volleyball set – a $100 value!

“We’re proud of our ongoing relationship with Radio Disney,” said Lynn Margason marketing director at Newport Aquarium. “It lets us host fun themed events especially for kids and gives our guests a chance to win exciting prizes.”

US Bank Ice Rink Hours Extended In Cincinnati

MEDIA ALERT: US BANK ICE RINK HOURS EXTENDED

WHAT: In celebration of the New Year, the US Bank Ice Rink has decided to extend its hours of operation for the remainder of the week. What does that mean for you? It means more time to skate, more time for fun and more time to enjoy what’s left of your winter vacation. Please note that the newly adjusted hours (found below) are only in effect from January 3 through January 6.

In addition to longer ice rink hours, skaters can still enjoy 2-for-1 skate admission and rentals every Monday through Friday, until 5pm.

EXTENDED HOURS OF OPERATION: (Effective January 3 – January 6 ONLY)

Thursday: 10am – 8pm

Friday/Saturday: 10am – 10pm

Sunday: 10am – 6pm

WHO: The US Bank Ice Rink is open to skaters of all ages. Admission and skate rentals are $3 each.

Hosted by Tricia Macke and Ben Swan of Fox19 along with Jay Kruz of Rewind 94.9, the 2012 New Year’s Eve Blast will take place on December 31, from 8:00pm to 1:00am on Fountain Square. In addition to an entertainment line-up including live music and DJs, the event features traditional favorites such as all-night free ice skating on the US Bank Ice Rink (courtesy of Strauss Troy), a giant dance party, Rozzi’s Famous Fireworks and a special midnight “reveal” and holographic holiday light show by Partech Lighting.

The event is presented by the Aubrey Rose Foundation, St. Elizabeth Healthcare, Barefoot Bubbly and Red Bull, along with media partners Fox19, Cincinnati Enquirer, and Rewind 94.9. The Aubrey Rose Foundation was founded by Jerry & Nancy Hollenkamp in memory of their daughter, Aubrey Rose Hollenkamp who passed away just before her 3^rd birthday in 2000, and helps families caring for children with life-threatening illnesses.

New Year’s Eve revelers can enjoy the Fountain Square celebration for free, or choose to purchase one of several VIP packages now on sale.
