What a Boxing Good Time! Battle of the Badge 2015

Battle of the Badge 2015

Last Friday I got the opportunity to check out the Battle of the Badge which by the way was my first Boxing Event, so I was a little Holiday for Herosnervous as what to expect. The Battle of the Badge, featuring our police and firefighters in a sanctioned boxing event with participants currently from Kentucky, Ohio and Indiana.

Battle of the Badge is a boxing event hosted by Holiday for Heros (also known as 4th For Our Soldiers) to raise funds for families of First Responders that have lost their lives in the line of duty. The foundation has been running for 10 years and helped so many families. So getting the opportunity to check it out and help raise money for a great cause, I couldn’t pass it up!

It is their mission to provide scholarships and grants to deserving families for their sacrifice to us all. It is also their mission through their unique events to thank and recognize our Military, First Responders and their families for their Courage, Dedication and Sacrifice to our communities and this Great Country.

Battle of the badge No Empty Seats 2015

There wasn’t a empty seat in the house! Friends and family of each and every boxer was there to not only support their fighter but to help raise money for a great cause! If you came late, you were standing for the 3 hour event!

Battle of the Badge 2015

The boxing event started and the punches got a throwing! It was absolutely crazy to watch firefighters and police hit each other, but they definitely were enjoying themselves and sportsmanship was a part of each and every fight!

Battle of the Badge Getting ready 2015Battle of the Badge Boxing Time 2015

Each and every fight was fun to watch and kept us on our toes. Not knowing which punch was going to land on the other boxer, who would be standing afterwards or will someone get knocked out! There were several fights that were just amazing to watch the ability that some of these men and women have. Boxing is not an easy sport and takes training and talent, they definitely had it!

Battle of the Badge Gir Fight 2015

The girl fights were quite interesting and the scariest for me. I have never really watched girls fight before so I cringed with every punch! But they were amazing and show great talent!

Battle of the Badge Fights 2015

Punch after punch and 16 fights later the fights started to come to an end!

Battle of the Badge Winners 2015

All of the winners received a belt and a fireworks show in the background! It definitely would make anyone feel like a winner!

Movie News: LionsGate Acquires Luckiest Girl Alive

Luckiest Girl Alive
Pacific Standard’s Reese Witherspoon and Bruna Papandrea To Produce
SANTA MONICA, Calif, April 10, 2015 – Lionsgate (NYSE: LGF) has acquired the hotly sought-after rights to the upcoming novel LUCKIEST GIRL ALIVE, it was announced today by Erik Feig, the Co-President of the Motion Picture Group. Pacific Standard’s Reese Witherspoon and Bruna Papandrea (“Gone Girl,” “Wild”) will produce the film, based on Jessica Knoll’s eagerly-anticipated debut novel which will be released May 12 (Simon & Schuster).
“Luckiest Girl Alive” centers on Ani FaNelli, a twenty-eight-year-old New Yorker who appears to have it all: a sought-after position at a women’s magazine, a wardrobe to kill for, and a dream wedding with her handsome fiancé on the horizon. But behind that veneer of perfection lies a vulnerability that Ani holds close and buries deep—a dark trauma from her past resurfaces only to give her a chance to confront her most shocking secret of all—but not without unraveling her meticulously crafted life.
The novel, set for release next month, is one of the summer’s most anticipated titles. Simon & Schuster’s Sarah Knight, who acquired and edited “Luckiest Girl Alive,” also acquired Gillian Flynn’s global best-seller “Gone Girl” and edited her best-seller “Dark Places” while at Random House.
“This is one of those rare books that come along every so often that you simply cannot put down,” said Feig.  “We are thrilled to be working with Reese and Bruna on this project.”
“Luckiest Girl Alive is the kind of book that grabs you and doesn’t let go. The hero of the book is a wily, intelligent, complex narrator,” said Reese Witherspoon. “This character and the thrilling narrative that she drives are exactly the kind of story our company, Pacific Standard Films, wants to produce. We are thrilled to be collaborating with Jessica and Lionsgate to bring her debut novel to the screen.”
Jeyun Choi Munford, VP of Production, and Creative Exec Nirokhi Raychaudhuri will oversee the project on behalf of the studio.
Author Jessica Knoll has been a senior editor at Cosmopolitan, and the articles editor at SELF. She grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia and graduated from The Shipley School in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, and from Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, New York. She lives in New York City with her husband. This is her first novel.
The deal was negotiated by CAA on behalf of Knoll, the novel and the producers
No compensation was received for this post. My opinion is 100% my own.

Grover is my favorite and has been since I was 2! Grover always tries to be helpful but, due to his limited cognitive abilities, he often makes a big mess of things. This never seems to trouble Grover, as he always manages to see a positive outcome to every situation. Grover never uses contractions in his speech and he often refers to himself as, “your cute and furry pal, Grover!”

Sprite Brings Back Popular Flavor Created With LeBron James

Sprite Brings Back Popular Flavor Created With LeBron James- Soda is always changing, so finding new flavors is so much fun! The first flavor developed by Sprite in collaboration with a cultural influencer returns as Sprite LeBron’s Mix

NBA superstar and cultural icon LeBron James has proven himself one of the most transcendent figures in sports and entertainment by constantly transforming on and off the court. Introduced in 2014, Sprite 6 Mix by LeBron James, the superstar’s limited-edition Sprite flavor also has evolved to feature a new look and name: Sprite LeBron’s Mix.

Sprite is a well-established innovator within basketball culture and the lifestyle surrounding it. And, the brand continues to hold this position through its longstanding partnership with James and the return of his fan-favorite flavor. Sprite LeBron’s Mix, formulated in collaboration with James, combines the refreshing taste of traditional Sprite with a splash of natural cherry and orange flavors. Eye-catching packaging features a bold red color base with James’ initials in the background. Crown iconography and dashes of gold symbolize the superstar’s most popular nickname — “King James.”

“Since Sprite began its relationship with LeBron in 2003, we have worked together with the goal of creating fan experiences no other brand can offer,” said Kimberly Paige, Vice President, Sprite Brands and Flavors, Coca-Cola North America. “Sprite LeBron’s Mix is a true reflection of our mutual desire to constantly innovate and connect with fans in authentic and original ways.”

Sprite LeBron’s Mix is now available in 20-ounce and 2-liter bottles, as well as 16-ounce cans, in convenience retail, value and mass retail locations nationwide.

“This collaboration with Sprite was all about showing gratitude to my fans by sharing one of my personal favorites — Sprite with cherry and orange,” said James. “I’m excited to continue my partnership with Sprite and bring it back this year, because sometimes things are even better the second time around.”
To learn more visit and follow the social conversation on the Sprite brand’s social channels (Facebook and Twitter) using the hashtag #LEBRONSMIX.

Recipe: Inside-Out Easter Eggs

deviled eggs

With Easter right around the corner, and me trying to find new ways to keep my family interested in the same old food I serve every year for Easter dinner, I love finding new recipes like this. These deviled eggs put the color inside the egg, not outside, with the addition of beets to a classically creamy yolk filling. Look for precooked, peeled beets in the produce section to complete this recipe.

8 large eggs
1 medium beet, cooked, peeled and quartered
1/4 cup mayonnaise
2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
3 tablespoons chopped fresh chives
16 very small fresh mint leaves or 2 teaspoons thinly sliced fresh mint leaves

Place eggs in a large saucepan and cover by a few inches with water. Cover and place over medium-high heat and bring to a boil. Remove from heat and allow to sit, covered, 10 minutes. Drain, cool and peel eggs.

Halve eggs lengthwise. Scoop out yolks and place them in a food processor along with beet, mayonnaise, mustard, salt and pepper. Process until smooth, stopping frequently to scrape down the sides of the bowl. Add chives and pulse until combined. Pipe or spoon the yolk mixture into the egg whites and place them on a platter. Top each with a whole mint leaf or a sprinkling of sliced mint leaves.

Nutritional Info:

Per Serving:Serving size: 1 whole deviled egg, 130 calories (90 from fat), 10g total fat,2.5g saturated fat, 190mg cholesterol, 290mg sodium, 2g carbohydrate (0g dietary fiber,1g sugar), 7g protein

Kids Frugal Fun: Cloud Watching

Laying in the grass with my girls watching the clouds can be a very relaxing afternoon. As long no one is touching the other one and they don’t pick the same cloud to guess what it looks like! The weather has been so nice and getting out and doing fun things with my girls is one of my favorite things to do!

clouds 2 clouds

Although this afternoon didn’t have the greatest selection of great shapes to pick from to make up crazy suggestions of what they look like. We did get a few hours of enjoying the nice weather and some time together to talk! Be sure to take pictures as well. You could always make a cloud book for your little ones to share later or just look back at when you can’t get out and look at clouds!

As the evening ended and we need to head in for the nightly baths we got to see some great colors and an airplane shooting through the sky! Relaxing time with my kiddos!

In Disney•Pixar’s original movie “ Inside Out,” he will take us to the most extraordinary location of all—inside the mind.

Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it’s no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions – Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith). The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley’s mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy, Riley’s main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school.
