October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and General Mills has teamed up with the Komen Organization to help raise funds. Our family has been drastically changed due to cancer overcoming several of our family members. Finding a cure is something we pray for everyday.
Check out below all the details about how your everyday purchases and your personal stories will help those battling cancer.
- Visit PinkTogether.com to share your personal story and messages of hope and read about others’ personal journeys. To encourage personal connections, General Mills will donate $1 to the Komen organization for each Message of Hope that is sent to someone who has shared their story on PinkTogether.com (up to $25,000) during October. This is in addition to a $2 million donation General Mills is making to the Komen organization.
- This year, for the first time in its five-year history, at PinkTogether.com consumers can choose how $1 million of this donation will be shared between two important Komen programs: the Treatment and Assistance Program, which assists women in securing care they otherwise may not be able to afford, and Prevention Research, which helps unlock the keys to preventing breast cancer. Visit PinkTogether.com from September 19, 2011 through April 14, 2012 to make your choice. Results will be announced on Mother’s Day 2012 – Sunday, May 13.
- Meet the 2011 Pink Together Survivor Ambassadors, and hear their amazing stories of courage and survival on PinkTogether.com and the Pink Together YouTube Channel.
- General Mills will also be turning the packaging of participating products pink in recognition of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October.

One of my good friends and coworkers has been fighting lung cancer for abuot 7 years. My friend fights so hard and is such a trooper. I have seen her struggle through so much and she makes me realize how special life is. My friend was handed a death sentence but she fought back and thankfully is still with us. My friend tells me all the time that even though she has been in a lot of pain and had a lot of suffering it was worth it all for these extra 7 years.

I have had a couple of family members that have passed away from lung cancer and know of a few people that are battling breast cancer. I am so in awe of the courage and strength that it takes to fight off such a horrible disease and God bless all of the survivors. Thanks so much for hosting this wonderful giveaway!

my boyfriends grandmother passed away in 2005 from brest cancer. My son was born the next year on her birthday… So she lives on in him =) (I belive I entered all correctly!) Thank you!
I’ve seen many of my family members lose the battle to cancer, all mostly to breast cancer. It’s so heart wrenching watching your loved ones go through so much and you can’t ease their pain. I hope cancer finds it’s end soon by being beaten with a cure! Thank you for the giveaway! God bless everyone affected by cancer and their loved ones!

Thank you for allowing us to comment on the subject of cancer. I have been battling bladder cancer since February 2010. I will win the battle and the cancer will lose even if I end up losing my bladder. So far when the cancer has returned it has never spread out of the bladder muscle wall. Praise God. I have had chemo and the cancer returned within 3 months. Now I do BCG treatments every 3 months for 3 weeks. I suffer with the side effects but I am a fighter and love life, my daughter, mother, siblings, family, and friends and most of all God!
My mother was diagnosed with “Triple Negative” (meaning it is not hormone related or HER-2 status) related in September 2010. She had 8 chemo treatments followed by surgery and 6 weeks of radiation. While this form of breast cancer is somewhat aggressive they caught it at Stage 1 and she just celebrated her 1 year of survivorship and cancer free in September of this year. We did our first Susan G. Komen Walk in Charlotte, NC on October 1, 2011. It was probably one of the best experiences that I have ever had and they are saying they hope to have a cure for this awful disease by 2020. Hopefully before then!!

My mother found out that she had kidney cancer 2 years ago around this time of year. It was the scariest thing I had ever heard in my life! The doctor said he needed to do surgery to remove the kidney and to make sure the cancer hadn’t spread anywhere else, so she went into surgery the day after Halloween. Once he took her kidney out and determined it hadn’t spread, I was thrilled! She came home from the hospital the day before Thanksgiving. Believe me, I had plenty to be thankful for that year, and every year after!

Cancer affects so many lives all over the world and tends to be just something terrible and unimmaginable for others. It truly sets in when there is someone close to you. Rather a family member or a close friend. A couple years ago devastation over came me and my world as I knew it. Or so to speak the everyday life. A friend of mine that I considered one of my best friends and in another way a Mother I never had, was told that she had cancer and had it for a few years without showing any real signs that is was there. She was one of the hardest working, kindest hearted, and yes one of the best people I ever had the pleasure to know and have in my life. She went through treatments and did everything that was possible but God decided it was her time. I think of her everyday and miss her more than words can be told but know that now she no longer suffers and is in fact in a heavenly place. We do need a cure for this for it takes ahold of sooooo many people from all walks of life. God Bless each and everyone of you and may he shine down on you and yours.
