DEL MONTE FRESH ANNOUNCES 2ND ANNUAL
“TEACHER MONDAY: CASH FOR CLASSROOMS” CONTEST
WINNERS AWARDED CASH, FRESH FRUIT AND SALAD BARS!
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – August 1, 2011 – Back by popular demand from parents and teachers Del Monte Fresh Produce, N.A., Inc. (Del Monte) announced today it will hold its second annual online contest “Teacher Monday: Cash for Classrooms” at www.fruits.com. The promotion encourages kindergarten thru 12th grade school teachers across North America to incorporate healthy eating and living messages into classroom activities. During six weeks this fall, 60 teachers will win cash to purchase school supplies and fresh fruit. Ten schools will also win a salad bar for their school. Many more winners will get a Del Monte Fresh Field Day event for their school in which the entire student body will enjoy a day of Del Monte® fresh fruit, games and fun activities.
Last year, hundreds of teachers and millions of voters throughout North America participated in “Teacher Monday.” Many winning teachers were able to introduce delicious fresh cut pineapple and melons to schoolchildren for the first time.
“If we can encourage just a few more kids to reach for fresh fruit instead of chips or cookies, we have accomplished our goals,” said Dennis Christou, VP of Marketing, North America for Del Monte.
To be eligible to win, teachers must register for “Teacher Monday: Cash for Classrooms” online contest at www.fruits.com then encourage all their fans to vote for them online. Ten winners will be selected each Monday for six consecutive weeks in October and November 2011. Winners are based solely on the number of votes they receive. Winning teachers will receive $750 in cash to purchase school supplies and $250 in Del MonteÒ fresh fruit coupons for classroom snacks and to use in fruit educational activities.
Winning North American schools will also be linked with schools in countries where Del Monte grows its fruit to help further the education of students by introducing them to another culture. Tropical schools will also receive $1,000 each for school supplies and improvements.
Look for “Teacher Monday: Cash for Classrooms” stickers on Del MonteÒ fresh produce such as pineapples, bananas, melons, grapes, avocados, tomatoes and fresh-cut fruits and vegetables, as well as colorful posters and other materials in produce departments.

Mr. Jones was my 5th grade English teacher. He really took the time to encourage me not only to read, but to write too. Because of him, I developed a life-long love of reading. I wish more teachers would be like him.

My son’s kindergarten teacher has been so great and helpful to our family in the last year. She even offered extra time after school to help my son with his academic struggles. Not many teachers will give up their own time to do these sorts of things. Mrs. Harrison is just the best!

My daughters 3rd grade teacher made my daughter so happy last year. Sadly she was murdered 2 weeks before school got out, but Mrs. Erwin made an impact on every child she came in contact with.
Thanks for the chance.

I had a lot of teachers that really made a difference in my life. My first was Ms. Gladys Klein, my 3rd and 4th grade teacher. She really embraced my need for challenge and encouraged me to think outside the box, take on leadership opportunities, and to get involved in my community- at such a young age! The older I get, the more I realize what an amazing opportunity she offered me. I’m sure that her actions went a long way to inspire my lifelong love of learning!
By the way, I love the Del Monte Ready-to-Eat Citrus Salad! I had one for lunch today!

My son wanted to quit his computer class and be a teacher’s aide to get an easy A. The teacher and I worked together and he stayed in it, got hired for their tech support team and majored in advertising in college and not does online advertising . The teacher told me it was amazing how many parents just let their kids drop whatever class they want because it’s too difficult. Glad I made my child work harder. It paid off.

My fourth grade teacher (Mrs. Daniels) has always been memorable. Not because she ate Saltines and drank a glass bottle Coca Cola for lunch, but because she gave us just enough independence to not be treated like babies and also instilled in us great problem solving skills.
Mrs Hyde was my 5th grade teacher who came back into teaching after raising her kids. She was much more laid back then the other teachers and encouraged independence.
My fourth grade teacher had a library in the classroom and got me hooked on books.

my youngest son is autistic, he was moved from one preschool to another because the first school wasn’t qualified to handle him, which was a blessing to the entire family…his new teacher ,Mrs. Sullenger……. had more patience than a saint……and she worked and worked with him and our family..this child went from jabbering to speaking as clear as anyone , he is now 16 and as smart as any 12th grader……..and i truely believe if this Angel had not came into our lifes……we would not be where we are today……more schools should be blessed with teachers like her…..
My son had a history teacher that really helped him. My son still loves history now.

I don’t have kids, but my most memorable teacher was Mrs. Hanson at Mattie Jones Elementary in Tyler, Texas. She understood that I read and didn’t force me to read what the other kids did, she let me go my own way. However, in math, she knew I needed extra help. She was great at figuring us out.

While I certainly don’t agree with all his decisions, the band director at my son’s high school (Heritage High School, Romoland, California) has certainly done more for our kids than any other teacher I have ever met. He has gone above and beyond the expected, fought the school district for his job when an angry mob of parents protested, stood his ground with local administration to hold onto the meager funds for the music program, and he’s done his darnedest to make sure each and every kid has enjoyed their time with the Mighty Patriot Regiment Marching Band and Pageantry and preserved good memories for the future.
