So thinking more and more everyday of new ways to help save time and money, I read over at Money Saving Mom how she makes homemade Oatmeal bags and thought that this would be a great addition to my bulk meal plan.

My plan for this was very simple; Oatmeal, Brown Sugar and Cinnamon- that is it! My girls are a little picky on certain meals and I wanted to make something that I know they would eat. They can always add fresh fruit in the morning when they make it, but this way I have pre-made breakfast in a bag, ready to go!

Here are the ingredients that I used to make 9 Ziploc bags of Homemade Oatmeal:

  • 1 Container of Oatmeal (3/4 of a cup in each bag)
  • 1 Cup of Brown Sugar (about a spoonful in each bag)
  • A Sprinkle of Cinnamon in each bag

  1. >Brianne once you make the individual bags, how do you prepare the oatmeal in the mornings?

  2. >Just like any other oatmeal (according to the canister's directions). Boil water on the stove and add the oatmeal mix and cook for about 4-5 minutes or you can microwave for about 3-4 minutes. We usually do the microwave and add milk and butter instead of just water!! My girls will eat more of it that way!!

  3. >That's great! You can save even more money by reusing the bags–if you use them again for the same flavor of oatmeal, you won't even have to wash them every time since they're only just dusty.I love quick oats. Did you know you can cook them by just pouring boiling water into the bowl from a kettle and stirring? It's easier than using a pot on the stove and doesn't boil over like (in my experience) microwaved oatmeal.
